New Grant Allows Housing Authority to Help Residents with Job Search
February 07, 2014
Thanks to a new grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), Norwalk Housing Authority will be able to continue its work to help residents find employment.  HUD has provided an extension grant of $67,839 to continue the NHA’s Housing Choice Voucher Family Self-Sufficiency Program.  Through the program, NHA is able to connect families with supportive services to gain employment.
NHA works with residents to help them formalize a plan to receive job training and financial literacy skills.  NHA also coordinates with organizations that provide training and employment search. An important part of this program is the Family Self-Sufficiency contract, where residents save a portion of their rent into an escrow account that they can use for any purpose, including paying educational expenses, starting a business or paying debts.
