Internships

Interns Wanted: Office of Congressman Jim Himes

About the Internship Working in a Congressional office can be an incredibly rewarding and exciting experience. An internship provides an excellent opportunity to gain valuable experience and observe first-hand how our government operates. Interns gain practical work experience by undertaking a variety of administrative and legislative responsibilities in the office.  Congressional interns, in our Bridgeport and Stamford District Offices, conduct research, assist with constituent casework, and draft correspondence. Interns also assist with answering phones, data entry, and general office systems operations. Our interns are valued members of Congressman Himes' District Office team.  Internships are available expressly for the purpose of furthering educational objectives; therefore, they are unpaid and usually awarded to students.

Application Process Interns are accepted throughout the year on both a full and part-time basis in both the Bridgeport and Stamford offices. Priority is given to applicants from Connecticut's 4th Congressional District, although all interested persons are encouraged to apply. Selection is based on an applicant's general office and computer experience, interview, and a short writing sample. A cover letter, resume, and a brief one to three-page writing sample must be submitted with the internship application. To request an application, please email Sean Higgins.
